Dear Members of the Maize Community,
The Maize TILLING Project has started planting our
"M2" nurseries. This summer we will be advancing
~ 1000 M2 familes from the 04IA-B73PS population and
~ 1000 families from the 04IN-W22CW to the M3 generation.
We planted the first ~ 260 families for each population
on April 28, 2006 and will do three additional plantings
7-10 days apart. The community is invited to walk through
our fields and look for mutant phenotypes of interest
to their research. Email maizetilling@purdue.edu
for directions to our field site and seed requests. Our
website now includes a link containing information for
propagating the mutants.
You can use the "Search TILLING Results"
link to determine if there are TILLING mutants for your
gene of interest. The Maize TILLING data will also be
accessible on Maize GDB in early June.
As part of the Primer Pre-Screening, we have determined
the seq uence of each gene target for B73 and W22, our
TILLING inbreds. In analyzing this sequence we have
noticed sequence differences and small indels between
the two inbreds, mostly in the introns, but sometimes
in the coding region. The B73 and W22 sequences for
each TILLING target are deposited in GenBank (GSS database)
when the TILLING data is released into the public domains.
MaizeGDB will have links to the GenBank entries.
Finally, we have set up a link to our poster from the
2006 Maize Genetics Conference. We have divided the
poster into sections that can be viewed as jpeg images
or downloaded as a powerpoint files.
As of May 2, 2006 we have received 100 TILLING requests
(gene targets). These requests are at various stages
of the "Maize TILLING pipeline" as summarized
below (charts and graphs coming soon).
* 13 gene targets: Mutations identitified order completed.
* 41 gene targets: Mutations identified, order still
in progress
* 25 gene targets: TILLING and sequencing mutations
* 21 gene targets: Primer Pre-Screen
If you have any questions or need more information,
please email maizetilling@purdue.edu.
Sincerely,
The Maize TILLING project
